| The
Orange County chapter of the National Youth Rights Association is
working on lowering the voting age. However, is interested in stopping
all forms of discrimination against youth. If you know of any form of discrimination in Orange County, from a Cerfew to discrimination in businesses, this group will help with your cause as well. Were'll all in this together. The NYRA-OC would like to think the 600 + youth rights activists who attended our February meeting in Orange. Let's keep changing the world. Members of the NYRA-OC have voted to condemn the ageist, civil rights discrimination promoted by Joe Olson, Mel Berstein, Ahjamu Makalani, Christine Pelosi, Joy Swann, Robert Jordon, and John Hanna. Members of the NYRA-OC have voted to recognize the promotion of human rights by Representatives Dennis Kucinich, Maxine Waters, George Millerand Jackie Speier, Assembly Speaker Karen Bass and by California Democratic Party official Inola Henry and former Green Presidential Candidate Cynthia McKinney. Legislation to regulate American Gulag Schools has passed the House of Representatives as H.R.911 Thank you to George Miller, Robert Andrews, Tomothy Bishop, Danny Davis, Rosa DeLauro, Marcia Rudge, Raul Grijalva, Phil Harw, Ruben Hinojosa, Mazie Nirono, Rush Hult, Michael HOnda, Dale Kildee, Dennis Kucinich, John Lewis, David Loebsack, Carolyn McCarthy, James McGovern, Gregory Meeks, Jared Polis, Robert Scott, Joe Sestak, Paul Tonko and Lynn Woolsey for sponsoring the legislation. Current actions: New Issues: NYRA-OC calls for legislation to protect current/future college students with dead beat parents who fail to pay the family contribition, or worse (i.e. steal the money from their children's college funds...). CDP Platform We are calling on the California Democratic Party to put up the platform that was agreed on and pull down the fake one that is incorrect. CDP Bylaws Changes So far we have been succesful in getting through a resolution calling for the lowering of the voting age and inclusion of youth in the CDP. We are working to implement bylaws changes that will make all provision consistant with their July, 2005 resolution calling for the inclusion of youth in the CDP. Candidates/Incumbants This chapter has passed a resolution to only back candidates who support youth rights issues, such as lowering the voting age. We will work to get candidates/incumbants who are on our side and support us in lowering the voting age elected or re-elected to the office of their choice. NYRA-OC was very proud of the success enjoyed by youth rights advocates in the election of 2008. We believe that the candidates we supported will do an excellent job. We also wish to contratulage all the youth rights advocates in the excellent work. The NYRA- OC has become a political force thart is changing the fact of politics. NYRA-OC congratulates youth rights advocate Paul Koretz on his election to the Los Angeles City Council. NYRA-OC has adopted a resolution calling for the mass evacuation of Orange County and portions of Los Angeles, San Diego, Riverside and San Bernardino Counties prior to and during a planned experimental, dangerous and radioactive procedure at San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station (SONGS), scheduled for September, 2009, that could kill children and cause severe reproductive damage to individuals of child bearing age. The failure of authorities to stop the procedure or to prepare to evacuate the danger zone is evidence of a complete disregard by elected officials for the lives of young Americans. Urge Attorney General Edmund Gerald Brown, Jr., to seek an injunction to stop this potentially catastrophic experiment and to save lives. Letter writing Letter writing campaign. At our meeting we will work on writing letters to our representatives, senators and state legislators of our area. We recommend that before writing a letter to your elected officials you find out their position of lowering the voting age or whatever it is that you will be writing to him/her about. This chapter is located throughout the whole of Orange County, California. |
